MedAssure wins SWAC approval:
NJ one step closer to a commercial medical waste disposal solution
September 21, 2009
Toms River, NJ-The Ocean County Solid Waste Advisory Council (SWAC) voted on September 21 to recommend the inclusion of MedAssure LLC’s medical waste disinfection system in the county’s solid waste management plan.
The recommendation now goes to the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders for consideration. Once approved, the MedAssure facility, proposed for a Towbin Avenue location in Lakewood, will become New Jersey’s first commercial facility for processing regulated medical waste.
During the presentation to SWAC, MedAssure management and consultants answered numerous questions about the system, which has been described as the most effective alternative to incineration for medical waste. The key advantages of the MedAssure system were described as its patented microwave process which safely and cleanly disinfects the waste, making it non-infectious and able to be disposed of like any other trash. The MedAssure process meets or exceeds all regulatory standards and has been approved by the NJ Department of Environmental protection as well as by other states and countries around the world. |
